Sh Br: 50: Get Ready for Dec. 29

Shiite Muslims – a people God is pursuing to be Jesus’ Bride

shbride@rightbox.com

For the Bridegroom will not come until the gospel is preached to the nations, and the nations are reached through spiritual breakthroughs that come by fasting and prayer. - John Piper, A Hunger for God, Crossway, 1997, p. 95.

Dear friend of our Bridegroom and His Shiite Bride, in just over a month from now, right after Christmas, you have an opportunity to join thousands of Christ followers around the world for ten days to fast and pray for Shiite Muslims. Will you say YES to God and pray that many more Shiites come to know, love, and worship the King of kings this Ashura?

Ashura begins December 29, 2008 through January 7, 2009. For these ten days, Shiites all over the earth - from Iran to Afghanistan to Lebanon to Iraq to Pakistan to Bahrain will be gathering in homes and mosques to listen and participate in the tragic retelling of a story, a horrendous battle that took place in Karbala, Iraq over 1,300 years ago when their Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed, was violently murdered along with 72 family members and friends.

Ashura is a collective time of deep emotional grief for Shiites. On the tenth day, Wednesday, January 7th, that grief culminates when millions of Shiites will march through their city and village streets, many bleeding profusely from their heads and backs where some have cut themselves to increase their pain and grief.

During every Ashura, Shiites are keenly sensitive to spiritual matters. They are expecting great things both when they are awake and when they are asleep. This year, dear friend of His Shiite Bride, pray they find Jesus.

To help you and your friends pray for Shiites during Ashura, please download a PDF copy of the Ten Day Prayer Guide in English, Chinese, Korean, or Portuguese at www.shbride.blogspot.com. Feel free to print out copies to share with your friends.

A two minute video will be available soon on YouTube as another tool to help you and your friends pray for Shiites during Ashura.

Mark your calendar for December 29-January 7, and together, let's see millions more Shiites turn to Christ this Ashura!
